Measure with wheels and handles
When you check a size limit, include the wheels, handles and outside pockets. Airlines count them.
Heavy items at the wheel end
Pack shoes and heavier items near the wheels. The case stays stable and rolls more easily.
Setting the TSA lock
Set your own code before the first trip and keep a note of it. A TSA-approved lock can be opened by US airport security with a special key, without being broken.
Using the expansion zip
Keep the expansion zip closed on the way out and open it for the journey home. Check your airline's size limit first: the case is bigger when expanded.
