Luggage Size Guide
Luggage Size Guide
Not sure which size to choose? This guide explains the most common luggage sizes and what they are best for.
Under-seat bags (personal item)
Most airlines allow one small free bag that fits under the seat in front of you. Common sizes are 40 x 20 x 25 cm and 40 x 30 x 20 cm. Ideal for a weekend city break if you pack light.
Cabin suitcases (carry-on)
Cabin suitcases are usually 19" to 20" tall. Many airlines accept cabin bags of around 55 x 40 x 20 cm, often for an extra fee on budget airlines. Perfect for trips of 2 to 5 days.
Medium checked suitcases
Suitcases of 22" to 24" are ideal for a one-week holiday. They go in the hold as checked luggage.
Large checked suitcases
Suitcases of 26" to 30" are made for long holidays, family trips or travelling with bulky items. Remember that airlines also set weight limits for checked bags, often 20 to 23 kg.
How to measure your bag
Measure the height, width and depth, including wheels, handles and outside pockets. These all count towards your airline's allowance.
Important
Airline allowances vary and change regularly. Always check your airline's current size and weight rules before you travel.
